Smiling Gecko School serves children who lack access to the foundational education they deserve to become fruitful global citizens. We are seeking a qualified, experienced Music Teacher. Smiling Gecko serves a provincial community by providing trades training to adults while educating the children with high-quality K-12 instruction that adheres to the Khmer national curriculum and international English standards. There are currently over 500 students from nursery to G8 and we will increase by 50 students each year. We are seeking teachers who are qualified and have a heart for our targeted demographic.

 

Qualifications:

  • Love for children.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education early and/or primary years.
  • PGCE or state-level teaching license (preferred).
  • Experience with Montessori
  • Native English speaker.
  • Experience teaching young children.
  • Desire to elevate our students’ opportunities as global citizens.

Job Requirements:

General statement:

The primary function of the classroom teacher is to facilitate the development of the student in the cognitive, affective, ethical, and physical (include psycho-motor) domains of his/her growth. To this end the teacher will provide an educational program for the students and will assist in other school programs as required by the Director and contractual obligations.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Determines with the relevant administrator appropriate learning objectives for the class taking into account the school’s course of study and the assessed needs of the students.
  • Plans appropriate learning experiences for individual, group, and class instruction
  • Monitors student progress and evaluates the student’s achievement in relation to learning objectives
  • Reports individual pupils’ progress to parents and school personnel through the preparation of reports and/or of conferences
  • Creates, with the assistance of pupils, a functional, safe, attractive, and physically comfortable environment, to the furthest extent possible
  • Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities provided by the school and/or self-elected professional growth activities.
  • Performs basic attendance accounting, record keeping and clerical services as assigned
  • Assists in the selection and requisitioning of books, instructional aids and supplies to the extent possible.
  • Establishes and maintains acceptable standards of pupil behavior
  • Administers any school testing program required by the administration
  • Participates in curriculum development, program planning, school evaluation processes, and other faculty committees as required by the school administration.
  • Shares in the sponsorship of student activities
  • Plans and coordinates the work of teacher assistants where appropriate
  • Works with colleagues, ancillary staff, parents, and community agencies in matters of mutual concern
  • Participates with the administration to develop a continuous improvement plan for both the individual teacher and the school
 
Remuneration:

The Business Development and Event Manager for the Bangkok and Asia-Pacific (APAC) region will design and lead strategic efforts to identify, build, and manage relationships with key partners and stakeholders. The role involves driving business growth through partnerships and planning, organizing, and executing events to enhance regional engagement. This individual will act as the primary representative for the Bangkok and APAC region and ensure alignment with corporate objectives while tailoring strategies to local markets.

 
Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy Development:
• Develop and execute a regional partnership strategy to support business objectives.
• Identify market trends, competitive dynamics, and opportunities for business growth through partnerships.
 2. Relationship Management:
• Build and nurture relationships with corporate partners, industry leaders, and other stakeholders in the Bangkok and APAC region.

3. Collaboration:

Event Management

1. Event Planning:
• Design, plan, and execute high-quality events (funding raising dining, conferences, workshops, networking events) in Bangkok and APAC region to enhance brand presence and stakeholder engagement.
• Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets for events.
2. Logistics and Execution:
• Oversee all event logistics, including venue selection, vendor management, and on-site operations.
• Ensure a seamless and professional experience for participants and attendees.
3. Stakeholder Engagement:
• Identify key participants, speakers, and partners for events, securing their involvement.
• Develop post-event follow-up strategies to maintain relationships and evaluate success.
4. Brand Representation:
• Act as the face of the organization at events, effectively communicating the brand’s mission and vision.
• Ensure events align with organizational branding and objectives.

 
Regional Expertise

• Maintain a deep understanding of Bangkok & APAC region’s business, cultural, and market dynamics.
• Adapt strategies and communication styles to suit diverse audiences across the region.

 
Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Event Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Proven experience in business development and event management, ideally in Bangkok APAC region.
• Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of APAC cultural and business practices in Bangkok and other Major cities, with proficiency in one or more regional languages preferred.
• Proficiency in tools like CRM software, project management platforms, and event management systems.

About the Opportunity

This role is part of a larger initiative aimed at equipping young Cambodians with the skills they need to build sustainable livelihoods along the lines of the “learning for earning” concept. After an initial familiarisation with the surroundings, you will work closely with the students and mentor at least 1 local trainer under a “train the trainer” concept, helping to build long-term local capacity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Training & Mentorship: Conduct hands-on culinary training sessions for students and mentor at least 1 local trainer to ensure knowledge transfer and sustainability.

  • Standards & Hygiene: Instill high standards of food preparation, including HACCP principles and kitchen safety.

Your Profile
  • Several years of professional experience as a chef or culinary trainer.
  • Expertise in various cuisines, with an openness to adapting to local Cambodian ingredients and preferences.
  • Strong teaching, mentoring, or training skills; previous experience in a similar setting is a plus.
  • Passionate about intercultural exchange and respectful of local customs and traditions.
  • Fluency in English

MEAT SPECIALIST

FOR OUR BUTCHERY IN THE FOOD PROCESSING CENTER

Smiling Gecko is a unique development project in rural Cambodia (smilinggecko.ch). Thanks to the initiative of the Swiss photographer Dr. h.c. Hannes Schmid, a cluster project is developing in the northern province of Kampong Chnang with various sectors in agriculture, tourism, crafts, industry, vocational training and school. Smiling Gecko helps families to move out of poverty and offers them opportunities to work on economically and environmentally sustainable projects that provide them with an income and support their children‘s education. The Smiling Gecko butcher shop is a logical addition to the agricultural production chain set up by Smiling Gecko. It opened in December 2018 for the processing of pigs and poultry from the Smiling Gecko farms. The butcher shop sells meat to Farmhouse Smiling Gecko and the school canteen. It also supplies the market and of course the farm families. As is the case with all Smiling Gecko projects, the butcher shop offers apprenticeships for young Cambodians who wish to learn a trade. It is designed to provide work and training for up to ten local people.

SPORTS TEACHER / FITNESS TRAINER

As an experienced sports teacher or trainer, you will support the Farmhouse hotel management in the development of tailormade fitness offers and sports activities for the guests and you will actively contribute to the training, supervision and support of the local staff. In addition, you will coach and train teachers at our Education Campus in Physical Education and assist the school management in creating its physical education curriculum.

  • Carrying out workouts and training sessions in the fitness studio / gym
  • Supervision and maintenance of the Vita Parcours

BLACKSMITHS / METAL WORKERS

AS VOLUNTEERS (FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS, PREFERABLY LONGER) 

The Benevol has the primary responsibility of supporting the team at the Smiling Gecko Cambodia Facility Management Department which includes supervision, training, support and assistance.  He is working closely with the team to ensure that the assigned tasks at the Facility Management Department run smoothly and effectively. The Blacksmith role includes operational responsibilities under the direct management of the Deputy Executive Director and Executive Director. He will be working closely and liaising with all SGC Program Departments and Vocational Training to ensure forging and repairing activities meet construction needs.

 
YOUR MAIN TASKS
  • Responsible for the education and training of young Cambodians on Welding skills
  • Implementation, development and updating of welding work
  • Forging and repairing of metal goods and machine structural equipment including machinery for agriculture, carpentry, fish farming and other departments
  • Planning and improvement for SGC Welding projects, including workspaces, required materials and tools, etc.
  • Drawing of plans for metal construction buildings and other facilities
  • Monitoring of the business operations, targets and planning
  • Ensuring financial accountability and sustainability
  • Development  and improvement of the existing curriculum, training plan and other supporting documents, together with the FM Manager and the SGC Vocational Training Department
  •  Documentation of the type of repair or fabrication of tools or machine components performed and daily activity report records

CARPENTER OR GRADUATE 

FROM THE WOOD SECTOR BSC WOOD ENGINEERING OR CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN

Smiling Gecko is a unique development project in rural Cambodia (www.smilinggecko.de). As part of the overall project, the Smiling Gecko carpentry started operation in 2016. This operation has created additional jobs and apprenticeships for currently 30 young Cambodians. The car-pentry carries out work on the cluster site, thus reducing the original costs and the maintenance costs associated with the infrastructure. In particular, the carpentry undertakes a wide range of tasks in the construction of the future Smiling Gecko School. It also offers its services externally and thus generates additional income for the entire project on site. 

 
YOUR MAIN TASKS

You will assist the carpentry manager 

  • in the training of the trainees and in other projects (construction, interior fittings, furniture production, etc).
  • in developing the infrastructure of our school, where the main focus is on the production of wooden frames for the school buildings. 
 
WE EXPECT
  • Completed education and qualified professional experience as a carpenter, Certified Technician or BSc Wood Engineering

Would you like to support our holistic development project in Cambodia and fulfill your interest in experiencing a unique
adventure? Smiling Gecko is a unique development project in rural Cambodia (www.smilinggecko.de). As part of the overall project, the
Smiling Gecko carpentry started operation in 2016. The new op-eration has created additional jobs and apprenticeships for
currently 30 young Cambodians. The carpentry carries out work on the cluster site, thus reducing the original costs and the
maintenance costs associated with the infrastructure. In particular, the carpentry undertakes a wide range of tasks in the
construction of the future Smiling Gecko School. It also offers its services externally and thus generates additional income for
the entire project on site. For the management of our carpentry workshop in Cambodia we are looking for a

MASTER CARPENTER

FROM THE WOOD SECTOR BSC WOOD ENGINEERING OR CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN

 
YOUR MAIN TASKS
  • Management of the Smiling Gecko carpentry workshop
  • Training and Vocational Training of our local apprentices and employees
  • Planning and budgeting of various carpentry projects (construction), interior finishing, kitchen and furniture production
  • Significant participation in the expansion of our Education Campus
  • Responsible for the carpentry budget
  • Responsibility for the maintenance of the carpentry with all machines
  • Contribution of marketing ideas for the sale of additional wood products
  • Administrative tasks
 
 
 WE EXPECT
  • Completed education and qualified professional experience as a master carpenter, Certified Technician or BSc Wood Engineering
  • Experience in the training of apprentices in carpentry
  • Willingness to work in a team and train inquisitive young people with lots of empathy in your area of expertise
  • Flexibility, initiative and ability to work in the project team
